Conditions in babies
- Plagiocephaly – A condition where areas of an infant’s head become flattened from being positioned on their back
- Torticollis – Contracting of the neck muscles causing the head to twist to one side
- Delayed Movement Milestones – When a child is late to reach milestones like rolling, sitting, crawling, standing or walking
- Bottom Shuffling – When babies sit on their bottoms and use their legs or arms to propel themselves instead of crawling, sometimes due to tight hip muscles
Conditions in children
- Juvenile Arthritis – An inflammatory joint condition with persistent joint swelling, stiffness and pain, affecting children under 16
- Hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – A connective tissue disorder resulting in greater than average mobility in the joints
- Osgood-Schlatter’s Syndrome (anterior tibial pain) – A painful lump below the kneecap affecting children experiencing growth spurts
- Sever’s Disease – Inflammation of the growth plate in the heel common in physically active growing children
- Sinding-Larsen-Johansson (Jumper’s knee) – Swelling and irritation of the growth plate causing pain at the bottom of the kneecap.
- Scoliosis – Sideways curvature of the spine
- Physical Impairments due to Cerebral Palsy – Problems with movement, coordination, muscle tone, posture, hearing, vision, and speech stemming from Cerebral Palsy
- Physical Impairments due to ABI – Problems like headaches, poor balance, seizures, fatigue, chronic pain, vision and hearing associated with Acquired Brain Injury
- Physical Impairments due to Genetic Conditions – Movement disorders, vision or hearing issues, digestive and swallowing difficulties and physical anomalies associated with a genetic condition
Developmental
- Delayed Movement Milestones – When a child is late to reach milestones like rolling, sitting, crawling, standing or walking
- Hip Dysplasia – When the hip socket doesn’t fully cover a portion of the femur, allowing for easy dislocation
- Reduced Coordination – The inability to finely control muscle movements that normally work together
- Reduced Proprioception – A decrease in sensory ability that tells the body its orientation in space
- Gross Motor Skill Developmental Delays – When muscle groups that control larger whole-body movements develop late
- Growing Pains – An aching or cramping sensation sometimes felt by children between age 3 and 12
- Chronic Pain – Pain lasting longer than 3 months or beyond normal healing time
- Posture Irregularities – Slouching, round or asymmetrical shoulders, bent knees when walking, body aches and pains and other issues resulting from poor posture
- Toe Walking – A pattern of walking in children where the heels do not make contact with the ground
- W-sitting – A position of sitting where the child’s knees and feet are bent outwards from their hips
